The Bahrain Garden Club was established on the initiative of Lady Luce, wife of the political resident in the Gulf, Sir William Luce. The aim of the club was to foster interest in gardening, improve the existing gardening methods and to provide a focal point for the exchange of information on topics of horticultural interest. His highness Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, the late Amir of Bahrain graciously accepted patronage of the club and was keen to inaugurate the annual flower and vegetable show from 1967 until 1999. From then on, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa became the Bahrain Garden Club patron to date. The last 50 years have witnessed a significant increase in participation and improvement in the quality of horticultural products by hobbyists as a direct result of the efforts of the garden club members.
